Message From The President & CEO

To my dear alumni, my warm greetings to all of you!

From being students in our classrooms some years ago, you are now accomplished professionals, serving God and mankind, and helping out the advancement of our country in your own little way. I am very proud of how each and every one of you has demonstrated the Thaddean spirit in action in your lives.

I am equally proud of our College celebrating 40 years of quality education based on Christian values, and we rejoice and give thanks to the Almighty for providing us 40 years of wonderful experiences.

Please allow me now to update you on major happenings and events in the College.

Within the next few months, we will be inaugurating a state-of-the-art virtual Nursing laboratory, housing two of the most modern 5th generation Human Patient Simulators in the Philippines. One is called STAN, a Human Patient Simulator capable of interacting with nursing students in real time with a combination of over 70,000 physiologic responses. The School of Nursing of St. Jude College also joins the ranks of the world’s top nursing schools in adopting the Program for Nursing Curriculum Integration (PNCI), the world’s most widely-used simulations curriculum for nursing education. The other simulator is named NOELLE, where the student can learn skills on basic and advanced obstetrics scenarios. For your information, there are presently only three nursing schools in the Philippines who have these 5th generation simulators.

Early this year, the School of International Hospitality Management (IHM) of St. Jude College inaugurated its hotel and restaurant simulation facilities. The modern facilities include 8 brand-new cooking workstations with CCTV, a new baking room and equipment, and a newly-built theater-type cooking demonstration room. The facilities also have a cafeteria and bar, a fully-furnished hotel room, a tour laboratory, a front desk, a bistro, a mini-restaurant, and a bistro bar. Furthermore, the IHM program has acquired state-of-the-art licensed computer software, such as the MICROS-OPERA for Front Office and Room Division subjects, and the ABACUS for Travel Services and Tour Guiding subjects. These two sets of software are used by major hotels in their day-to-day operations.

We also started new courses such as Information Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Pharmacy. Our nursing school has been granted PACUCOA accreditation, while we are in the process of getting the same for our Radiologic Technology and Hotel and Restaurant Management courses.

We have forged international academic partnerships such as our tie-up with the University of Nevada in Las Vegas (UNLV) which offers the Master of Science in Nursing-NP. We have also collaborations with China’s Liuzhou Medical College and Tumor Hospital and Zhaoqing Medical College, with the Association for Tourism in Higher Education in the United Kingdom, plus other associations in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Singapore.

We have also formed local partnerships with the University of Rizal System in offering a PhD in Educational Management and a Master in Management, and a Master in Public Health with the Angeles University Foundation.

Our School of Rehabilitation Sciences is likewise the first and only school in the Philippines to offer both academic and clinical fields of study in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Program.

In this world of global competition, we intend to focus on and support courses that leverage on the competitive advantage of the Philippines, which is human resources. We believe that the growth sectors in the 21st century are in the human resource-intensive and skills-intensive service sectors.

We will continue to make further investments in infrastructure and technology in our other schools and courses, including constructing another building in the parking area behind the College.

But enough of us. Let’s talk about you, for you are important to us.

First, you are important to us because you represent the College in the outside world, both here and abroad. Wherever you go, you are our ambassadors of goodwill.

Second, you are a very important stakeholder in this College.

Third, when you become very active as an alumni group, it is a firm indication of the College’s capability to pass on and instill the values of loyalty and generosity.

Lastly, you are the keepers of tradition in St. Jude College. Administrators and professors may come and go, but the alumni remain as the storehouse of rituals, practices, knowledge, and values.

To ensure that we will serve you better, I am pleased to announce that my daughter, Ms. Evangeline Terene Del Rosario-Tenchavez (SJC BSPT alumna), has agreed to take over as Alumni Director and Alumni Association President on a concurrent capacity. She will be in contact with you regarding the exciting plans of both the College and the alumni association very soon.

While we exert our best efforts to be of service to you, we hope that you, our alumni, remain the College’s “die-hard” fans. We need alumni who harbor warm feelings and nurture a soft spot in their hearts for the College wherever they may be.

For it is our hope that you will start to explore ways and alternatives on how you can support your Alma Mater in its efforts to make a difference in Philippine society. I am confident that once the alumni combines its resources and capabilities, it can make meaningful contributions to the College, the community, and the country.

In closing, let me share with you my feelings about the past 40 years of St. Jude College. The College has thrived during the good years and has survived during the bad. While most of the forty years were good ones, there were years when we were shocked by crises. But we have emerged stronger, for the Thaddean spirit has seen us through these daunting challenges. Guided by the ideals as inspired by St. Jude Thaddeus, we are confident that we will sustain our drive for excellence and the pursuit of our mission.

So as we celebrate our glorious past, we would like to think that we are really not 40 years old. For as we face our exciting and challenging future which you are all a part of, we realize that we are actually 40 years young, having fun, and raring to do another 40.

Finally, may we grow in deeper appreciation that all these blessing come from the Almighty, and may we continue to share these blessings with our brethren.

Cheers!

Dr. Evangeline A. Del Rosario
