HISTORY
More than half a century ago, Dr.Ramon Atienza Jr. and his wife Dr. Felicidad Calip-Atienza decided to put up a 12-bed clinic in Sampaloc, which they named after their patron saint, Saint Jude Thaddeus. Their primary concern then was to serve the medical needs of the less privileged people who were living in the former squatter area along Maria Clara and Don Quijote Streets where the small clinic was built. Never did they dream that the once modest clinic would become what it is now-a modern general hospital housed in a five-storey building complete with the most modern facilities and equipment. And to cope with the needs of the hospital, eighteen years after St. Jude Clinic was established in 1950, the couple vision of putting up a School of Nursing materialized. Thirty three years since the foundation of the St. Jude School of Nursing in 1968, it has evolved into a bigger institution of learning-St. Jude College housed in a cluster of eight storey buildings just at the back of the hospital. Since then the college has opened up other education courses aside from Nursing. The hard work and industry of the Founders was soon rewarded by the establishment of a campus in Dasmarinas Cavite on October 23, 1999.
A REVITALIZED ST. JUDE
Today, St. Jude College stands at the threshold of a new leadership, poised to carry on the legacy of its founders, raring to soar to even greater heights. First in the priorities of the school is the continuous development of the quality of instruction along with improvement in its facilities To ensure its consistent high standards, the School of Nursing has submitted itself to a Level Two accreditation by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA). The other courses will shortly follow after the total renovation of St. Jude’s various facilities which is expected to be completed within 2009.
Furthermore there are plans for a multi-function building to rise at the Maria Cristina property just beside the Calip Atienza Building. The modern edifice will feature a gymnasium, multi-level parking and state-of-the-art research facility. It will also become the new home of the Alumni Association with an Alumni Hall dedicated specially to alumni memorabilias.
